Getting your website online

After you have edited your template and have created all the pages of your website based on the same HTML file, it’s time to get your website on-line.

A web host

A web host is a company that stores websites from companies or individuals on their servers, so that these websites are made available on the World Wide Web for public viewing. Thus, the host provides space on their servers for use by their clients as well as a connection to the internet.


There are a lot of web hosting companies out there, and it all depends on your budget on which one to choose. Bellow I will list a couple of web hosts that offer free space on there servers:

Domain name

Before you can upload your website, you actually need a website address – the URL your visitors need to type into their browser window to get redirected to your site (e.g. http://www.yourdomain.com).


How to set up your domain all depends on which host you chose. If you picked a free host, you can often get a free domain from them (e.g. http://www.yourdomain.yourhost.com).

Uploading your files

Now that you have your domain set up and your host picked, it’s time to get your website online!


Most hosts allow their clients to upload their files through FTP. This is an easy way to copy files from your computer to your hosts server, much like you would copy files from one folder to another.
