  • Adobe Photoshop CS

Scalloped Circle
As always, open up your Photoshop and create a new canvas of your chosen size and resolution.
Select the Ellipse Tool and set it’s mode to Path.
Hold the shift key and draw a perfect circle path unto your blank canvas
Select your brush tool and pick a hard round brush. Go to your brush window (Window –> Brushes or click F5) and apply the settings you can see on the image on the right!
Create a new layer.
Select the ellipse tool again and right click on your canvas. Select Stroke Path. In the pop-up menu, pick Brush and click the box Simulate pressure.
After you clicked ok in the stroke path pop-up, you should have a ring of circles painted on your canvas.

To get a perfect alignment of the circles/scallops, you might need to play a little bit with the diameter of your brush and with the percentage of spacing.
If you’re into maths, you can try calculate the exact brush diameter you need by calculating the contour of your circle path. Contour of a circle is calculated with the formula 2 X π X circle radius.

Your circle path and your ellipse tool should still be active.
Right click on your canvas again and this time you need to pick Fill Path. Pick the same colour as you used for your brush. In my case that was black – my foreground colour.
Click OK and there you have it: your scalloped circle on its own layer!
